Simultaneous Acquisition of Metabolite and Water Signals in 3D Echo Planar Spectroscopic Imaging

چکیده
Introduction Echo planar spectroscopic imaging (EPSI) is one of several approaches to speeding up acquisitions of metabolite spectra from multiple voxels [1, 2]. However, EPSI measurements are very sensitive to temporally and spatially dependent phase and frequency shifts that arise from eddy current caused by oscillating readout gradient of the EPSI sequence. As a result, these phase and frequency shifts can easily distort the metabolite spectrum. Although measuring the water signal to correct the phase and frequency shifts as well as water-suppressed metabolite signal is effective to reduce such spectrum distortion, it increases the scan time, especially for 3D spatial measurement. Therefore, simultaneously acquiring metabolite and water signals is preferable. We have developed a technique to simultaneously acquire both signals in 2D conventional PRESS-CSI sequence [3] and 2D EPSI sequence [4]. In this paper, we describe a technique applied to the 3D EPSI sequence and present the results of phantom measurements utilizing the proposed method.

Rapid 5-minute Echo-Planar Spectroscopic Imaging of Prostate Cancer Patients at 3T
Introduction Proton spectroscopic imaging of the prostate has become a valuable clinical tool due to its effectiveness in detecting the presence and aggressiveness of prostate tumors [1]. However, the long acquisition times (typically 15-20 minutes) for the 3D phase encoding traditionally employed can be prohibitively long. A flyback echo-planar readout sequence has been developed and recently ...
متن کاملProton MR spectroscopic imaging without water suppression.
To improve reproducibility in proton magnetic resonance (MR) spectroscopic imaging in human brain, simultaneous acquisition of the internal water reference and metabolite signals was evaluated. Measurements in healthy volunteers showed that the increase in dynamic range from signal oversampling was sufficient to avoid digitization errors. In addition, use of singular value decomposition techniq...
متن کامل5D Echo-planar J-resolved spectroscopic imaging of cerebral metabolites in HIV-infected youth: a preliminary study
Purpose: Perinatally HIV-infected youths have abnormal cerebral metabolite concentrations, but this has not been well studied. By incorporating a varying TE, 2D J-resolved spectroscopy reduces spectral crowding by pushing multiplet splittings into a second spectral dimension. Multivoxel MR Spectroscopic Imaging (MRSI) can be used to obtain spectra throughout the brain, providing better coverage...
متن کاملImproved water and lipid suppression in volumetric brain 3D-EPSI
Introduction: 3D echo planar spectroscopic imaging (EPSI) is becoming increasingly popular for metabolic imaging with whole brain coverage [1]. Challenges to successful implementation of 3D-EPSI with extensive spatial coverage include obtaining sufficient Bo field homogeneity, water and lipid suppression. This abstract describes improved water and lipid suppression in 3D-EPSI with a newly devel...
متن کاملFast 3D Proton Spectroscopic Imaging of the Human Brain at 3 Tesla By Combining Spectroscopic Missing Pulse SSFP and Echo Planar Spectroscopic Imaging
Introduction: The fast spectroscopic imaging method “spectroscopic missing pulse SSFP” (spMP-SSFP) is one of the candidates for fast 3D proton spectroscopic imaging of the human brain with minimum user interaction [1,2]. However, the minimum total measurement time Tmin is rather long for large spatial 3D matrices, as k-space sampling is only accelerated by using short TR values, typically 150-2...
